Mission Launch

Lack of updates for over a week - things are pretty busy. The mission starts this evening with the Launch Party at Maxwells; a bar in the centre of Oxford. The speaker is Matt Roberts (a student - the current OICCU VP) and tickets haven't sold amazingly well so far, so we trust God that He will bring non-Christians along.

The money situation is a lot better, praise God for an enormous donation over the weekend that has more-or-less covered the shortfall.

Still be praying for college CUs giving copies of John's gospel to their undergrads, for God to work powerfully through His word and that He would be helping them understand it (and read it!)

More updates to come later in the week....

The Power of the Gospel

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." (Rom 1:16a)

This week, the OICCU will be giving a copy of John's gospel (shown here) to every undergraduate in the University (there are over 11,000). The books contain the gospel and some testimonies from various students.

Please pray that we would all be bold in giving these out, and that God would work through His word, and be convicting people of their sin, and drawing them to Christ. Pray too for good conversations when going round and knocking on doors.

About the Mission

OICCU puts on a mission to the university every year, and every three years we have a "big" mission, which lasts for two weeks. This year is a big one, and the main speaker is Roger Carswell.

There will be a number of events put on by the CU, the purpose of each being an opportunity to present the gospel clearly to unbelievers. These events vary from apologetic-type talks which will take place at lunchtimes during the Mission, and evening talks. There will be a jazz night, comedy evening, debate, banquet, and drama evening.

The dates for the Mission are 31st January to 11th February - and there are still a number of things to organise, both for the central Mission committee and the college CU leaders. Please pray for wisdom in making these decisions, remembering the events are completely in God's hands, and we pray earnestly that He will use them for His great glory.

More to come soon....

Welcome to the OICCU Blog

This blog will be updated every few weeks or so. Its main purpose is to keep family and friends up-to-date on the work of the Oxford Inter-Collegiate Christian Union and its ministry amongst Oxford colleges.
